Paladin stuff in wotlk
September 9, 2008 on 10:49 pm | In Uncategorized | | SicopathLoflk, here’s another beta post.
So let’s recap; one of my character copies was my paladin, Octavio. On the live realms; a prot paladin covered in epics. Here he is chilling in Shattrath:

But… he’s not Octavio anymore. That’s the beta realm he’s standing around in; having been forced to get a name change, his name is Bonder. LOFL
But anyway, upon logging in I found that all my talent points had been refunded. So I wasted no time in taking advantage of this. After making the rounds picking up new talents and swapping gear into my bags, I headed off to Vengeance Landing and put on my clown suit;

Ret gear that is; all the horribad blues I never threw away and epics that nobody else wanted. The trained eye could probably spot the quest helm, ragesteel gloves and ZA bear shoulders (which is laughable).
It’s no big secret that the retribution tree has had several major buffs compared to it’s state on live realms a lot in the way of mana efficiency but even more in other ways. But oh boy; actually trying this stuff out is a huge suprise.
Bonder’s Judgement of Command hits Frosthorn Ram for 1654 Holy.(Critical)
Bonder’s melee swing hits Frosthorn Ram for 1692 Physical.(Critical)
Bonder’s Seal of Command hits Frosthorn Ram for 1898 Holy.(Critical)
Bonder’s Arcane Strike hits Frosthorn Ram for 765 Arcane.(Critical)
Bonder’s Crusader Strike was dodged by Frosthorn Ram.
Bonder’s Divine Storm hits Frosthorn Ram for 2369 Holy.(Critical)
Bonder’s Seal of Command hits Frosthorn Ram for 433 Holy.(624 Overkill)
Bonder has slain Frosthorn Ram!
True story, that actually happened in the game.
But look closely; massive physical damage, massive magical damage, crits all over the place. All in the space of less than 4 global cooldowns.
Here’s how:
* New judgement system - you no longer need to waste a GCD recasting a seal after casting a judgement.
* Unified hit and crit - physical crit and spell crit are the same rating. Stacking one increases the other.
* Sheath of Light - 30% of attack power is added to spellpower

Added together, a ret paladin in wotlk has very potent burst damage from melee swings and holy damage. Also worth noting is that 621 spellpower in wotlk is roughly equivalent to 1171 bonus healing in the current live realms, making for a potent spot healer.
Any requests for further updates should go below.

How’s threat reduction, now that Salv has changed?
And how’s Stu? I’m currently only reading Druid and Hunter beta reports, with the former being nerfed and the latter being stupid.
Enjoying the servers?

How do they handle professions for Death Knights? Do you just keep your existing ones or can you choose new ones? If you choose new ones do they start from 1?

Haven’t seen threat stuff in action, i’ve decided not to spoil the 5 man dungeons so i’m not grouping with anyone.
I’ve had a good 5 or 6 respecs to look at warlock changes; affliction seems like the levelling spec of choice since dark pact has been buffed to return 200% of mana drained, but as always the burst damage is very poor.
My favourite beta spec is 47/14/0, picking up the fel armor talents and (nerfed)soul link for godly survivability; but if no changes are made between now and release, i’m pretty certain levelling a paladin would be faster than levelling a warlock.
Death knights start with no standard professions except First Aid which is boosted to 250. Any other professions you pick up on a DK will start all the way from 1. From what i’ve seen, they’ve added alot of recipes to most professions to level from 325 onwards using northrend mats so the eventual grind should be a little less painful.
