Red tape

May 20, 2006 on 12:30 pm | In Contemplation | | Michael

From my Air Law textbook:

‘Supplemental oxygen in aircraft operating from 10,000 ft up to and including 13,000 ft AMSL for periods more than 30 minutes shall permit continous use by all crew members and by 10% of the passengers.’

I need 10 volunteers.

  1. Put me down as a crew member ;-). Define “continuous use”

  2. Unfortunately (for you) for operations with less than 19 passengers only one crew member is required, and I’m afraid Michael’s Airways does not have sufficient funds to hire a second crew member. We’ll offer you a 20% discount on a passenger seat though.

  3. Again, define “continuous use”. Also, am i right in assuming that Michael’s Airways (are Michael’s windpipes and nasal passages and therefore don’t take passengers) only fly along routes where destination = departure location, and there are no refreshments, or movies?

In this case, I’d rather catch a ride on someone’s bike ;-)

  4. I can’t define continuous use, that’s all the textbook says and I’m too lazy to read the Civil Aviation Act 1990 and the CAA rules and regulations.

As for my destination, I can assure you that it will not be the same as the departure, and as for inflight entertainment, I believe passengers collapsing from oxygen starvation will keep the others entertained. Again, I will need 10 volunteers to verify this theory. And an airplane with 10 passenger seats.

  5. well, pick your ‘volunteers’ from the engineering department

  6. no no hire arts students. the engineers can just stay in the air port and drink beer.

  7. Whatever you do, don’t take anyone from law.

  8. Alternatively, take everyone from law, and soe others and make sure that the 10% does not include any of the law students. Wait, I have friends in law… oh well, sacrifices need to be made in the interest of science
