OUTAGE!
June 12, 2006 on 3:25 pm | In News | | Jonny ChaosNo doubt you have all either experienced first hand or heard of the power outage that hit the sprawling suburban lesion that is auckland.
I was in the CBD during this. It was possibly the most fun I had in ages. I spent the time sitting at Divan and chatting with the waitresses, while 20 metres away on Queen St the sound of general chaos as performed by the police and fire services punctuated by the odd screeching car provided a symphonic accompaniment to the madness.
Overall, this little taste of the downfall of society has been hugely rewarding. I think that the Holocene Climate Change will give me much ongoing amusement. Yes, I did say amusement: the name “JonnyDoom” is not an arbitrary affectation.
If its all the same to you, I’ll drive the tanker.

It was VERY entertaining. Less so, when afterwards I found out that I could have been at home all day, with full electricity and internet service. It’s nice to know that karma exists, and that the CBD can experience the joy of what we get about every week. On the note of karma, my computer has trojans, cannot connect to the internet (on a work laptop at the moment), and is terribly slow.

I spent the day walking around the house, reading chemistry literature and toning my arms with small weights and a pair of chucks.

I was marking test papers in the law library at 8:30am when the lights went out. Complete darkness. So I tried to leave and find someplace with a bit more light, and the librarian insisted on searching my bag with a flashlight in case I had taken the opportunity to go steal a bunch of law texts.
So I headed up to the philosophy department and hid myself away in the tutors room. A very nice lady tutor made me a coffee from a kettle that had boiled just before the power outage. Quite nice of her really.
