Trackmania United
November 24, 2006 on 12:21 am | In Other Gaming | | Jeremy ReadTo alleviate boredom during the holidays I bought myself a copy of TM United. Starforce issues aside, it’s a decent game. Better than Trackmania Nations, which was decent for lans. The game is extremely fast based in some scenario settings, it’s not hard to hit over 900KM/h in the island setting.
Cars seem to drift around corners more easily than in Nations, especially in the Coast campaign, though at times it’s more an annoyance due to the extreme speeds you’re trying to keep under control.
Was it worth the $80 I paid for it though? Well yes and no. The game in itself isn’t worth that much. However this edition of Trackmania is based around community content, so much so there’s a peer to peer network where you pay for items with an online currency called “coppers”. Where you receive a daily stipend of coppers if you login, with addition coppers gained achieving exceptional laptimes and also by providing content. So although it may not be worth it now, within a few months it could be easily worth that much.
I really don’t like the Starforce copy protection though, it’s sad to say that I’d have preferred that the game was available on Steam.
