Road to Regionals/Nationals

March 26, 2007 on 8:02 pm | In Magic | | Balinor

Ok people it nationals has a date set in Gameplayer: MTG National Champs confirmed for August 11 & 12 in Auckland.

Here’s some info I found at href=”http://www.wizards.com/dci/downloads/MTG_PEIP-07_07feb1_EN.pdf

All invitation-only National Championships will offer ranking-based invitations based on the DCI rankings calculated on June 25, 2007, regardless of the date of each individual National Championship.

The following countries invite 75 players based on DCI Composite ranking: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, and Thailand.

Invitation Criteria (Invitation-Only National Championships)
In countries that hold an invitation-only National Championship, that country’s invitation list comprises the following:
• That country’s current National Champion.
• Members of that country’s current national team (including alternate)
• The current World Champion (if residing in that country).
• The current Pro Tour Player of the Year (if residing in that country).
• Players (from that country) with Pro Tour Players Club level 2 or higher.
• Winners of invitations through City Championship tournaments (for those countries that have them).
• Winners of invitations through Regional tournaments such as Regional Championships, National Qualifiers, open tournaments, and so on.
• That country’s Top 20, 35, 75, or 100 DCI Composite–ranked players. The number of players invited in this manner (20, 35, 75, or 100) depends on the size of the Magic-playing population in the country.

Not sure what rating you have to be but another way in is Regionals and according to people who have attended in the past, they are usually T2 Constructed plus drafts. I will be attending Regionals (should be sometime in July if Nationals is August) with either a B/U control deck or my Vore deck I used (modified) at North Island champs. Who else is keen to attend this event?

apparently there’s grinders running up to the tournament and if you win those = guaranteed entry. only requires you to win 6 rounds straight ;)
    Composite:
296 Jin Koo Niersbach 1613 Waitakere City, New Zealand
On the other hand we have:
604 Jawyei Wong 1584 New Zealand

  3. Win events at Regionals get into Nationals :) or you can get into Nationals via DCI points, although only 75 people are invited. Regionals run T2 constructed and limited. Pick something and go hard if you want to get into Nationals

  4. Will there be beer and hookers involved in some way?

  5. “Will there be beer and hookers involved in some way?” only iff ‘involved = “absent from”

as for picking something and going hard, according to the spam gmail hasn’t been filtering properly lately, that shouldn’t be a problem.

  6. What’s the point of going hard if there aren’t any hookers?
