Ramble about a current event

Now I think this is a bit of a sensitive story, but nonetheless have been following it throughout the past year.

 For a bit of history: Cru and Chris Kahui Jr were two 3 month old boys who died on June 18th last year from abuse. Their father, Chris Kahui has been charged with their murder. In the time before his arrest, their whanau had been unwilling to communicate with the public and the police about what happened. Because ‘what happens in the family, stays in the family, bro’. Finally someone came around and Chris Kahui was arrested.

So anyway, he gets bail and waits almost a year for the trial. Now they have just finished their trial. However it wasn’t to determine his fate, it was to determine if they had arrested the right person. Kahuis trial doesn’t start until May of next year.

Now if anyone else has been following this, you might have the same feelings as me, the mother of the twins, Macsyna King, is just as guilty as he is. She is told to take the twins to the hospital immediatly as they had life threatening injuries. She goes to McDonalds for an hour instead. When told she should stay at starship because she was needed there with the twins, she replied “I don’t give a shit, I’m going. I need my sleep.” I can’t believe these people are allowed to repeatedly breed.

 Now personally, I’m glad this story is getting so much media attention. I think it has really shed new light on child abuse in New Zealand. In my opinion it’s a real shame it had to happen though. I have heard the comments of “two less kids to grow up and act like their parents” and the such, and I think that if they had survived and been left in that enviroment there is a good chance they would have grown up in a similar fashion. But two defenless children lost their lives because someone smashed their heads against something.
