PSA

Yesterday was kebab thursday.

The kebabs are rather good.

I dripped chilli sauce onto a white shirt. I blame the fact that I ordered BBQ instead of chilli. Obviously people don’t understand my accent.

I washed my shirt, and then sat around in my office for a while wearing a thick sweatshirt, on the basis that if my manager came in this would be better for my prospects of continued employment than sitting there topless.

It was really really warm sitting around like that in a room without Air Conditioning, in almost-direct sunlight, although I dare say Itamar would have found it a touch chilly. Chilli. Sorry.
Anyway, none of this shit matters. What really matters is that Jeremy found the best fucking horoscope ever, in the aforementioned kebab place.

The horoscope for Pisces was something along the lines of:
Blablabla, usual crap, you are awesome “don’t ever change”. The part in “quotation marks” is, in fact a quote.

DON’T EVER CHANGE. There we have it, no need to read another horoscope ever again. It’s all pre-determined. Pisceans are perfect. I’ve converted to Calvinism.

Jeremy is a Pisces. I am a Pisces. I assume there are other people who are also Pisces, but that’s not the fucking point.

We forgot to take a pxt as evidence, or keep the horoscope.

Some things just don’t change.

And apparently, that’s just the way it should be.

Random MSN convos

January 29, 2009 on 8:35 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment | DarkSentinel

I’ve had some random MSN conversations while at work, some of which were NSFW and all of which I shouldn’t be having anyway.

This one struck me as a bit odd:

I should have utilised the opportunity, but I wasn't awake yet

I should have utilised the opportunity, but I wasn't awake yet

After this I think we blocked each other.

Hmm, I should go do some work.

Quest for Progress, aka Silly != content

Originally posted on Udder Madness. Reposted because a) content, b) make search engines hate me, c) something to do, d) profit.

Has anyone played Progress Quest? It’s a little single-player RPG that takes the grinding out of RPGs. Which means that it just runs in the background spouting random RPG-related text to the GUI, with the net effect of looking like Kingdom of Loathing played by a bot.

You start it, it runs. It quests for you, kills stuff, empties bags, buys new gear, and you can watch those little Progress bars… progress. Slowly. And after a while, very slowly. And while this is doubtlessly more interesting than whatever work you’re meant to be doing, homework you’re procrastinating about, or blog you’re trying to read, it’s still a bit single-minded (GRIND GRIND GRIND!).

I’m thinking we can do better than this. Hereby introducing Quest for Progress. The non-interactive RPG of the future. It’s so futuristic there won’t even be a QFP1, but we’ll move straight to QFP2. There will be a single player option that can start as soon as your computer loads, and a MMONIRPG (massively multiplayer online non-interactive role-playing game), with over 2 people per server!

This game will be so awesome that if you close it and then load it again later it will extrapolate what would’ve happened while it was off. No more losing game-time when a tornado takes out some pylons!

Further features (which in fact may or may not be implemented):
- no more spending ages deciding on a class, they’re all the same anyway so QFP has the option of assigning you one automatically (defaults to “Village Idiot”)
- no more spending ages deciding on a name, QFP has the option of assigning you one automatically (also defaults to “Village Idiot”)
- the same goes for race, except that “Village Idiot” is not a race
- better quests: escorts, debaucherie, highland games, marry an heiress, earn a Darwin award, engage in massive public quests
- more realism: QFP will occasionally create an alt for you, and level that one instead (defaults to “other Village Idiot”)
- PvP: QFP will include player-versus-player combat (well, QFP-versus-QFP combat)
- NPCs will have names, they may not be very good names, but they will exist
- trophies: QFP will randomly award you completely meaningless things for doing stuff you had no hand in doing (we’re basing this on a beaureaucratic model). Other QFP ‘players’ may or may not view these.
- new hairstyles!
- new dances!
- destructible buildings (actually, no, that won’t be happening)
- realm versus realm combat (also a nono, sorry)
- bugs!
- false promises!
- ambiguity!
- lag! (although not sure how we’ll do this)
- free beer on fridays! (we are, in fact, working on this. But only on fridays)
- salvation and forgiveness for your sins! (QFP creators hereby forgive you for all sins committed before last summer)
- the wrong release date (next week, honest)
- colons in future titles, because more colon makes everything better!
- and many other things we’ll add when we see that they work for other companies (currently considering Google ads)

Quest for Progress 2: we hope you’ll join us
Your village called, they want their idiot back
Things QFP might not have (read: probably won’t):
- monsters
- graphics
- spells
- items
- a way to install it
- features

Primers for PTQ: Berlin

Preparing for PTQ: Berlin
As stated elsewhere, I can’t actually make it to the Wellington PTQ, and the Auckland one will include Eventide so is entirely a different ballgame. With that in mind, I thought I’d share some more fruits of my deck design, and testing, of the last few weeks. I must mention that the deck design may be a bit more radical than usual (:o) since I’ve been consciously avoiding a tribal theme to the newer decks. Also my playtesting has been limited to around 10 games per deck, due to time contrainsts posed by impending (and current) exams. And since I can’t concentrate on study at the moment, you get this literary masterpiece instead. I must mention that my phone and internet went out around midday today (sunday), and according to Telecom this fault affects around 200 people in my area and will be resolved by around 1900 hours on Tuesday (55 hours later). I’m uncertain what sort of fault takes two working days to fix, but later on Telecom sent me the following helpful text message: “If you service is not restored by: 19:00pm on 24.3.06 call 120.”. That’s right, NZ’s biggest telecommunications provider thinks it’s currently March two years ago, so I probably shouldn’t be surprised that their service is a touch on the unsatisfactory side. I tend to upload this tomorrow at Uni, so if you’re reading this that is probably what happened; additionally I don’t have a chance to check decklists online, so am working from memory, and personal notes.

Shadowmoor in Lorwyn Block Constructed

June 10, 2008 on 12:17 pm | In Magic | No Comments | DarkSentinel

Alright, so at time of writing, the Lakers are 2 games down against the Celtics; close games though, so maybe the home team advantage will work for the Lakers in the next 3.

Moving right along to Lorwyn block constructed with Shadowmoor…
While people were busy with Standard, munching on Quick’n’Toast and hating on Faeries, I was busy messing around with Vivids, Reflecting Pool, and Bitterblossom. Errr… The point being that Lorwyn has a lot of powerful cards that are pretty much defining Standard right now, and thus should have a heavy impact on Block constructed.

Planning for PTQ Berlin (with Shadowmoor)

May 24, 2008 on 10:28 pm | In Magic, Other Gaming, Uncategorized | 15 Comments | DarkSentinel

This was the initial planning thread for PLT1’s preparation for PTQ: Berlin, with Shadowmoor. Since it is now semi-obsolette we’re opening it to show our planning process.
The decks here are not final, nor are they necessarily good/viable/playable.
In hindsight some comments may appear uninformed/erroneous. Live with this.
If you want to discuss anything, sign up, post a common.
you can reach me on Gmail, name = darksentinel (if that’s insufficient information, then you’re a bot ;) )

Find Love at Uni

SFW. SFU.

STFU.

I have a lecturer called “[First Name Withheld] Love”. I had to send [Gendered Pronoun Withheld] an email and didn’t know the address. Luckily there’s a searchable address book:

Also History 306 (Title: “Making Sex”) is a great paper:

Enrolling in History 306 was interesting. There was an unknown component to the paper. Possible a practical for “Making Sex”:

And lastly, from the same paper:

That's so kewl

(clicky 4 big)

This item is purchasable off/from a man halfway down dominion road in an interesting little shop just above Real Groovy on Auckland’s main shopping street (K’ Road Queen Street). He also sells nunchaku and various other interesting things. And drinks. Non-alcoholic ones. Upon the purchase of above pictured item I was admonished “you no use in public, you get in trouble. Use in private, ok”. Awesome.
