Sorry guys, Polarity is still out of stock. Looks like we won’t be playing it in the second half of this semester, so it’ll have to be Chess again.

It’s official, we are all incapable of walking alongside heavy traffic without police supervision

My bus broke down.

No, it wasn’t my fault. Just after Otahuhu the driver pulled over and stopped (some weird alarm thing went off, very annoying sound). We then proceeded to wait while 5 buses (including several expresses) passed us. Several of the other buses stopped and offered to take us the rest of the way into town. Apparently Stagecoach (or OSH, or the LTSA) have a policy that disallows bus passengers walking 10 metres in a straight line and boarding another bus parked directly in front of the broken bus when said changeover must occur on a motorway. We had to wait 20 minutes for the cops (actually just one cop) and a replacement bus. Overall it was an interesting experience (being tied down due to bureaucratic pragmatism), although I’m not sure exactly what the police escort added to the occaision, when we did get to switch buses he just stood in one place and stared at the Tow truck, not even warning us about the dangers of placing ourselves in front of motorway traffic, which I had assumed was his job under such circumstances. Why else would they have made us spend 20 minutes watching express buses pass us while waiting for the police?

TechED Student day 2005

August 26, 2005 on 8:05 pm | In News | 2 Comments | Jeremy Read

Just got back from TechEd’s student day.

Interesting info:

We got to see a dev XBOX 360. And the wireless controllers are really cool, they’ve got a button that lets you turn on/off the XBOX. HDDs are going to come in 20gb sizes.
EDIT: Microsoft is not confirming that Halo 3 is not being made.

The XBOX 360 is compatible with the ipod and the PSP.

VS 2k5 for Universities may come with the HL2 source code.

[Unofficial] the XBOX 360 is going to be released early first quarter 2006.
Interestingly the world wide release is only happening in the US, Europe and Japan. New Zealand will get it a week later.

Age of Empires 3 looks nice.

The guy’s who are making Indigo want us to keep calling it Indigo rather than the “Windows Communication Foundation”. After seeing someone write a scaleable peer to peer chat app in it in under 5 minutes I’ve got to say that it’s incredible.

Another test

Some random text. Just to fix up the markup for the avatars.
//Don’t make your avatar taller than 80 pixels. Wider might be okay.

Roget’s Thesaurus rules, dominates, regulates, OK, all right, adequately.

EDIT: The Stumpy page is now working really well.
EDIT: Just redirected stumpy.tk to here.
EDIT: I really want to swap the title on all pages back to Life outside PLT1, but it requires editing the theme even more.

EDIT: Just fixed the site code so the avatars display properly without screwing up the formating.

Yip looks like blockquotes are working nicely
