Trackmania United
November 24, 2006 on 12:21 am | In Other Gaming | No Comments | Jeremy ReadTo alleviate boredom during the holidays I bought myself a copy of TM United. Starforce issues aside, it’s a decent game. Better than Trackmania Nations, which was decent for lans. The game is extremely fast based in some scenario settings, it’s not hard to hit over 900KM/h in the island setting.
Cars seem to drift around corners more easily than in Nations, especially in the Coast campaign, though at times it’s more an annoyance due to the extreme speeds you’re trying to keep under control.
Was it worth the $80 I paid for it though? Well yes and no. The game in itself isn’t worth that much. However this edition of Trackmania is based around community content, so much so there’s a peer to peer network where you pay for items with an online currency called “coppers”. Where you receive a daily stipend of coppers if you login, with addition coppers gained achieving exceptional laptimes and also by providing content. So although it may not be worth it now, within a few months it could be easily worth that much.
I really don’t like the Starforce copy protection though, it’s sad to say that I’d have preferred that the game was available on Steam.

It’s childish, but oh so appropriate. I move that we petition Wizards to add this to 10th.

Don’t butt in; this is between me and my toilet!
November 9, 2006 on 11:18 pm | In Magic | No Comments | SicopathGood merry fuckign evening, here’s a super special awesome idea I came up with recently. Take a seat, listen carefully…
Mono Green… Land Destruction?
Rather than insult you more, i’ll go ahead and post the decklist and then insult you some more.
Creatures (18)
—
4 Greenseeker
3 Scryb Ranger
2 Thallid Shell-Dweller
4 Carven Caryatid
3 Wood Elves
2 Craw GiantNon-Creatures (22)
—
4 Giant Growth
3 Aether Web
4 Rampant Growth
3 Moldervine Cloak
3 Creeping Mold
4 Mwonvuli Acid-Moss
1 Squall LineLand (20)
—
19 Forest
1 Arena
Now, before I comment any further; don’t play this deck. It’s not very good.
With just a quick look over; you can pretty discern that it pretty much has a grand total of ONE good matchup.
Nonetheless, it’s a fun casual affair; unlike red LD decks which are early-game decks, this is a mid-game deck. In giving up speed, mono green has early land acceleration and stronger board presence with a bunch of cheap 5 toughness walls and Aether web, which is pretty much a removal spell.
Land destruction should begin on turn 3 or 4; mass land searching is good for slower decks such as this as it makes sure your mid/late game draws aren’t clogged with land. The deck should win via Craw Giant, or a Moldervine Cloaked Scryb Ranger.
Yes, I know. The deck sucks. But whatever; it’s fun and can happily reside in the “sometimes works” category. Fuck you and your elitist bullshit; I will play shitty and obnoxious decks and you can’t do anything about it. He also raped a bear… AND THAT BEAR WAS MY FATHER!
But no, seriously. It’s not that bad; not award winning but it’s probably a skeleton i’ll be building on for a while. For one thing, the deck has tools to deal with most situations and for another thing, Mwonvuli Acid-Moss is probably my favourite common from Time Spiral.
An idea i’ve been toying with would be replacing Giant Growth with Gather Courage; it’s a neat combat trick to flash Scryb Ranger in as a blocker and then use it to convoke Gather Courage.
Suck my ass. No seriously, don’t.

Some more stuff.
November 3, 2006 on 5:01 pm | In Pictures | 4 Comments | SicopathBeen going insane with the drawing pad. It’s nice how thanks to technology I can re-edit sketches as many times as I like.
In the interests of not stretching the columns any longer, i’m only posting a cropped sample. I’ll be editing other page-stretching images on the page to a (click here for full size image) deal.
